February 2017

Lots has been happening with the project since January.

A Learning Analytics Steering Committee is now actively engaged and has adopted the Jisc Code of Practice for Learning Analytics to ensure that we are governed by clear legal and ethical guidelines as we carry out the project.

A number of student consultations and staff focus groups have provided encouraging feedback. Students feel they would benefit from an app which enables them to follow their academic progress. Staff would benefit from a decision support tool which will produce recommendations of interventions required to change behaviours and outcomes.

It is currently proposed that the staff dashboard and predictive analytics will be made available only to the programme directors and personal tutors of the proposed pilot disciplines. The project team has recommended that the University does not expose students to predictions.

The Steering Committee has asked suppliers to present their app and dashboard solutions to staff and students in order to identify the best solution for Aston.
